THE WEIGHT OF THE CITY. Latin American photography in the Anna Gamazo de Abelló collection

The collection of Anna Gamazo de Abello collects some of the best examples of twentieth century Latin American photography. Names like Horacio Coppola, the portrait photographer of Buenos Aires, the Cuban Alberto Korda, who shot to fame by the photos of Che Guevara, Sergio Larrain, the best example of Chilean photography; Geraldo de Barros, representative of the Brazilian avant-garde photography and Pablo Ortiz Monasterio, who portrayed the marginality of Mexico, among others, are part of these collection that has been developed in the field: its curator, the french Alexis Fabry  -who is curator of this exhibition- has traveled to different countries to see the best photograph of each place. Thus, after seven years, the collection of Anna Gamazo de Abelló is a representative example of all styles and techniques of Latin American photography, which includes documentary and aesthetic visions, and in which the protagonists are the people and their history.

MARRIAGES VI. Paco Gómez · Chema Madoz

Bodegas Roda in Haro (La Rioja), hosting the sixth annual photographic exhibition series "Marriages", which Bodegas Roda and the Foundation Photo Colectania organized since 2007. On this occasion, the works of photographers Chema Madoz Paco Gomez and unite with one common goal: a fascination with objects. With several decades of separation, Gomez and Madoz works together to find the poetic view of photography inspires the imagination with very little. The exhibition can be visited at Bodegas Roda May 5 at the end of October 2010.

Paco Gomez (Pamplona 1918) and Chema Madoz (Madrid 1958) share the same vision of photography. Unlike the work of a reporter, two photographers looking for the subtle details that inspire feelings and, thanks to the imagination, tell stories. To do this, they just light up the grass, reframing graffiti, getting the stains on the walls and the trench coats, or simply support a ladder on a mirror. Always with the serenity of those who do not play anything, despite the apparent and create between genius.

Viaje a Ibiza. Fotografias de Paco Gómez

Esta exposición presenta por primera vez un conjunto de fotografías que Paco Gómez realizó en abril de 1960 durante un viaje a Ibiza, una isla muy distinta a la imagen actual y que atrajo a un gran número de artistas de distintas disciplinas.

Los paisajes, el tipo de arquitectura y la luz típicamente mediterranea confieren a Ibiza una atmosfera única que cautivó a Paco Gómez. Paseando por la isla, inmortalizó con su cámara lugares, paisajes, personajes i detalles de la arquitectura ibicenca.

Y LOS CIELOS SE HUBLAN. Fotografías de Semana Santa

La exposición "Y los cielos se nublan" producida para la Sala San Benito del Ayuntamiento de Valladolid a partir de los fondos de la colección de la Fundación Foto Colectania, quiere enseñar la espléndida diversidad de miradas de la fotografía creativa española de las últimas décadas y cómo, la Semana Santa, adopta múltiples perspectivas, tantas como miradas aquí representadas.

PAIRINGS V. Photographies of Xavier Miserachs and Francesc Català-Roca

The Bodegas Roda in Haro (La Rioja) host to April 2010 the fifth annual series of exhibitions of photography "Pairing" organized by the Foundation Foto Colectania. From a sample of 27 photographs of the back of the Foundation. It is evident that Xavier Miserachs  and Francesc Català-Roca, plus good friends friends were complicit in his particular way of positioning  in photography. The lives of the characters in the street was the most inspired topic for these two masters of photography of the 50s and 60s.

Xavier Miserachs and Francesc Català-Roca had in common aesthetic clear links in their approach to photography in black and white. Both shared the sobriety of treatment of natural light and the role of the vitality of street life. These catalan photographers  also claimed a renewal of the cultural landscape of gray those decades, who said with all the means then were within his reach through exhibitions, magazines, books ...

TRACES.

The exhibition Traces, curated by Xavier Ribas, revolves around the relationship of photography as a trace and traces, as technological apparatus as aesthetic discourse and processes of representation and narrative moving between reality and fiction. The works presented in the exhibition explore the photographic medium through the narrative possibilities of the traces, the footprints, the marks and signs.

Sven Johne's work refers to events based on several historical data, subjective experiences, hints and suggestions from second hand. Ulrich Gebert projects and Anna Ferrer are more strictly documentary proposals, while they intend to give visibility to certain situations that might be considered anomalous. Gert Jan Kocken and Javier Ayarza explore places and objects marked by violence and historical conflicts or everyday situations. Finally, the work of Matt Packer and Ron Lewis are opener proposals that seem to fade in the obsessive accumulation and speed of your images. 

After it has been shown in Foto Colectania, now we can enjoy  the exhibition "Traces" in the Photography Center of the University of Salamanca.

SUMMERTIMES IN SAN SEBASTIAN. PACO GÓMEZ

In the exhibition Summertimes in San Sebastian Paco Gómez portrays a paused time town, with his characteristic direct and essential style focused on the elements that more captivated him: the port, the beach, the parks and the typical places of leisure of a calm town. By this exhibition, we can have a walk with the photographer through a town closer to citizen daily life than to the vision of the foreigner. Paco Gómez images communicate the simplicity of the inhabitants, marking the dignity of hairstylists, fishermen, photographers or walking people.The work of Paco Gómez (Pamplona, 1918- Madrid 1998) is one of the most personal and coherent in Spain. He belonged to the generation of photographers who claimed a new subjective and poetic vision of photography at the end of the fifties.

In 2001 Foto Colectania Foundation received the donation of the complete photographer’s archive, enriching and complementing its collection of contemporary Spanish and Portuguese photography.

MARIDAJES. CRISTINA GARCÍA RODERO / INÊS GONÇALVES

"Maridajes" is a series of exhibitions organised by the Foto Colectania Foundation from its permanent collection of photographs.

The idea is to establish points of contact between the work of two photographers, Cristina García Rodero e Inês Gonçalves, creating an interplay of echoes that leads to the enriching combination of two elements.

Cristina García Rodero represents the seniority and Inês Gonçalves the new Portuguese photography, but both of them share the interest for travelling, searching the light and portraying. García Rodero presents photographs of her journeys around Spain, Georgia, Poland and Greece, with fascination for children as common link; meanwhile Gonçalves photographs describe her journeys to the ancient Portuguese colonies in Green Cape, Goa and her newest series taken in São Tomé.

PRIVATE EYES. Colección Laurence Miller

The Laurence Miller Collection encompasses some of the most representative works of international photography, with a particular emphasis on photography from North America. Artists such as Diane Arbus, Aaron Siskind, Ray K. Metzker, Helen Levitt, Lee Friedlander and Harry Callahan are part not just of Miller's private collection but also of his own biography: he had the good fortune of striking up intense and fruitful personal relationships with most of them, which is why Miller himself defines his collection as an "unauthorized autobiography".

His interest in collecting works by what were, at the time, little-known artists, allowing himself to be guided simply by his taste and intuition, has enabled Miller to amass an original collection over thirty years that includes a great number of classics from the world of photography.

The title of the exhibition is a reference to the perspective of a certain kind of photographer, who Miller himself describes as "an artist in pursuit of meaning and pleasure, working mostly in private without much care or need for fame, recognition or financial reward".

Private Eyes was exhibited at the Exhibitions Hall of Banco Herrero in Oviedo from March to May 2009. .

MARIDAJES. GABRIEL CUALLADÓ / MIGUEL DE MIGUEL

"Maridajes" is a series of exhibitions that has been organised in the Bodegas Roda by the Foto Colectania Foundation from its permanent collection of photographs since May 2007.

The idea is to establish points of contact between the work of two photographers, creating an interplay of echoes that leads to the enriching combination of two elements, such as the one obtained by marrying a dish with a glass of wine.

The resonance between the two photographers we have selected for the current exhibition of Marriages involves a very direct parallelism: the work of two classical authors of Spanish photography in the 70s around one subject-matter that regularly appears in the career of both: children photographs. However, beyond this unifying subject, Gabriel Cualladó and Miguel de Miguel also share the fact that they have been important motivators in Spanish photography of half of the 20th Century. In the work of Cualladó we can stress out a distilled influence from the International classical masters as well as an extraordinary skill for a straightforward portraiture. De Miguel, on the other hand, dares to stage scenes with an unusual freshness and claims a humorous approach.

MANEL ARMENGOL TRANSITIONS. 70s en España, China y Estados Unidos

Towards the end of the 1970s, Spain, China and the United States underwent a period of profound changes in their history. It was an intense period, full of uncertainties, that Manel Armengol was able to capture through his personal and profound vision of those events.

In the series Spain in the Transition, the photographs are snippets from everyday life, from the street, of people; only some of them show particular demonstrations or were taken as part of a specific photojournalism report. The series of China reveal a country that at the time was closed to the outside world, strange and unknown, of which Armengol gives a very personal view. Finally, the images from the USA series are alluvium images, short moments from Armengol's walks along city streets, or the immense deserts of the south.
